6 Simple Ways To Give Thanks To Bloggers
Every now and then we all STUMBLE on a blog that simply provides exceptional content and in depth information. I myself have read thousands of blogs, there’s a lot of crappy ones out there, but a great number of good ones as well. Writing a blog post is very easy, anybody who has fingers can pretty much post about anything and everything one can possibly imagine. To me a quality blog post is one that provides unbiased information, well written, and keeps me interested in the subject matter.
So as a reader, what exactly do you do to give thanks to bloggers who has spent their precious time providing information to you? Well here’s what I would do:
1 - Contact The Blogger
I would get in touch with a blogger to let them know how much I enjoyed their article. Some bloggers will not leave an email address or contact form on their site, at that point I would simply leave them a thank you comment.
2 - Link Love
Whenever I STUMBLE on a blog that is just full of great articles, I would link to that site and add them to my blogroll.
3 - The Stumble Upon Effect
Stumble Upon is a great service and it is a wonderful article promotion tool. I always make sure I give a thumbs up on blogs that I enjoy reading.
4 - Submit and Vote
Everybody knows that Social Media is a great source for generating traffic to a site. If the article you are reading is really, really good, chances are it’s already been submitted to sites like Digg, Mixx, Reddit, Propeller, Yahoo Buzz, etc. If that’s the case, then go ahead and vote the article up.
5 - Give Out Some Change
This is probably everyone’s favorite since it involves money. Make a courteous donation to the blogger. I have received donations on this blog in the past and let me tell you, it is a great feeling! I went out and bought a bag of Cheetos.
6 - Add Cents???
This is actually my favorite one, whenever I see an ad, I make sure I give it a click if I feel like the blog has given me something I can walk away with. And don’t just click on the ads for the sake of clicking, take time to read what the ad is offering, you might just find something that is of interest to you. Just don’t overdo the clicks or the blogger will be penalized for click fraud. [ I am in no way advocating the clicking of any ads ]
So next time you read and enjoyed a random blog post, you’ll know what to do.

These are great ideas and as I blogger I can definitely agree with them. Another is to promote articles in person, print them out, share them with a friend or colleague. Its too bad bloggers are mostly limited by exposure to blog readers and surfers, there are lots of others to read who would never find that source themselves. That is a great way to give thanks to a blogger kind of indirectly.

All blogger will love this posted. Good work, but I don’t agree with no6 “6 - Ad Sense…Add Cents” because I will only click when I want to buy something or some survice (one free click is one loss money for adworder.)

What about those “donate a cup of coffee” or “buy me a cup of tea” links? I personally think they’re clever and when I come across a post that has helped me significantly, whether it be a tutorial or a how-to, I’m more likely to click that button then a generic donate button.

Personally, I’ve followed #1 to praise the bloggers and have been contacted too some times, especially for my travel writeups as travelers often sought tips. Now I think of using the other pointers too the next time I come across some good blog post.

Good tips. As a blogger, I especially appreciate the Stumbles I get because they bring additional traffic. I would hope that a reader would poke around my blog for a bit before leaving. If they choose to use Ad-sense on the way out then fine — that’s what it’s there for. But, for the sake of the advertiser, I would hope that they at least click on something they have a basic interest in, rather than just tossing me a nickle. Nickles are nice, but I don’t need them badly enough to rip off an advertiser.
I’d rather be Stumbled in order to perhaps attract viewers whose Ad-Sense clicks would actually convert for the advertiser.

Oh, BTW, I REALLY like the blog design. Really. The torn off slip of paper tacked to a bulletin board motif is spot on! I also appreciate the CommentLuv plugin (I use it, too). I think that we, as bloggers, should be careful to make certain our commenters are ‘paid back’ for their efforts. My own ‘web presence’ (far more than the blog linked above) is undergoing a top to bottom redesign, so it’s pretty rough at the moment. But you and your readers are welcome to stop by … if you don’t mind the dust. I notice, too, that you do not “nofollow” your links. Good man; bravo!

Please .. don’t tell people to click the ads *sigh*
Why would you steal from someone the blog is trying to support? Why would you encourage stealing at all? That’s like saying:
· If you like a candidate you should steal from their campaign fund;
· If you like a charity you should steal from their donors;
· etc.
It’s unethical, violates the TOS of companies that run ad posting systems, and by suggesting such you run the risk of advertisers (appropriately) boycotting your site.

Imagine you sold something through ads where you had to pay each time someone clicked on one of your ads (PPC). Now imagine you ran those ads on your own site. Each time someone clicked without buying, you lost money.

I think that the best way to thank a blogger is to comment on their post and ALSO come back for me. Theres nothing more valuable to a blogger than a loyal reader.
