iPhone Keeps Crashing

iphone-crashed.jpg

For some reason or another my iPhone seems to crash whenever I’m browsing online or just trying to run some applications. I’ve done a restore about 6 times already hoping to resolve the issue, I’ve even downgraded to firmware 1.0.2 and nothing seems to resolve it. I was starting to think that my iPhone might have gotten messed up somehow when I hacked it. It was getting really annoying, I was at the point where I just wanted to sell this one and buy a brand new iPhone. But I didn’t want to hand this off to anybody knowing there is something wrong with it, so I devoted some time into investigating what was causing my phone to crash.

It took me about 2 weeks to figure out but I finally found out what the culprit was. It’s a setting within Summerboard that was causing my frequent crash. Now you have 2 options to fix this problem, one, you simply uninstall/remove Summerboard and don’t ever use it again. Two, go into the Summerboard settings and switch the “Dim Wallpaper” setting to Off. I chose the latter.

My iPhone hasn’t crashed once ever since I changed this setting, this will work on firmware 1.0.2 and 1.1.1, not sure about 1.1.2 because I haven’t upgraded yet.

  1. This looks like a good suggestion for people who are having similar problems with their iPhones. Thanks!

    works with 1.1.2 :)

  4. iPhones are pretty sweet but maybe they are a little “immature” and need a little time to work the kinks out. I think I’m going to wait and let them develop the product a litte more.

  5. i cant see any off my icons on the phone but can receve cals and once receved ca use the keypad. i had installed summerboard but now i cannot uninstall as i can see the installer icon.

  6. Shiyam,

Sounds like you need to perform a restore and start all over again.

  7. I have been to restore but seams like I am not doing it right. What would be the simplest way ahead. Advice PLs.

  8. I have been trying to restore but seams like I am not doing it right. What would be the simplest way ahead. Advice PLs. When I try by iTunes it says latest firmware will be installed, mine is 1.1.2 OTB. Hence afraid it might Brick

  9. Hopefully the new iPhone 3G won’t have this issue. I do have a few friends with older models like this one in the article and they aren’t having the issue.

  10. iPhone 3G does have that issues, sometimes it feels like Microsoft made the iphone
